Ask five people what 99exch is and you will get five answers: "a betting app", "a cricket ID", "some WhatsApp thing", "like a bookie but online". None of them is quite right, and the confusion is exactly why newcomers get caught out by copycat sites. So here is the plain version, written for someone who has never opened an exchange panel in their life. No jargon without an explanation, and no pretending that betting is anything other than risky.
The short answer
99exch (you will also see it written 99exchange or "99 exch") is an online betting exchange panel used mostly by cricket followers in India. You do not download it from the Play Store and you do not fill in a sign-up form the way you would on a shopping site. You are issued a username and password — people call this a 99exch ID — you log in through a browser, and you place bets using points that correspond to the money you deposited.
That is genuinely all it is. Everything else you hear is detail layered on top.
How an exchange differs from a bookmaker
A traditional bookmaker sets a price and you take it or leave it. An exchange works more like a marketplace. One person thinks India will win and backs them. Someone else thinks India will not win and lays them. The platform matches the two and takes a small commission from whoever wins.
Why should you care? Two reasons. First, prices on an exchange move constantly, ball by ball, because they are driven by what people are willing to accept rather than by one company's margin. Second, you can take either side. If you think a favourite is overpriced you can lay it, which a bookmaker would never let you do. We have a full walkthrough with worked numbers in back vs lay explained, so we will not repeat it here.
What you actually see after logging in
People expect something flashy. The reality is closer to a spreadsheet. On the left, a list of sports. In the middle, today's matches with blue and pink price boxes. Blue is back, pink is lay. Tap a price, a small slip opens, you type a stake, you confirm. Under the main match odds for a cricket game you will usually find:
- Match odds — who wins. The simplest market and the right place to start.
- Bookmaker market — the same question, priced in the Indian style (for example 45–47) with no commission but a wider gap.
- Session or fancy markets — runs in the first 6 overs, runs by a named batter, fall of next wicket. Fast, fun, and the quickest way to lose track of your spending. See our session betting guide before you touch these.
There is also a live casino tab with Teen Patti, Andar Bahar, roulette and the rest. It sits in the same wallet, which is convenient and dangerous in equal measure.
Points, not rupees
This confuses almost everyone on day one. Your balance is shown in points. In the normal arrangement one point equals one rupee, so a ₹500 deposit shows as 500 points. Confirm the ratio with support before your first deposit and write it down. If anyone quotes you a strange ratio, or the balance on screen does not match what you sent, stop and ask before placing anything.
How people get an ID
There is no public registration form on the panel itself. IDs are issued by providers over chat. On this site the process is:
- Tap any "Get ID" button, which opens a WhatsApp conversation with our team.
- Say you want a new ID. You will be asked for a preferred username and nothing more exotic than that.
- Make the first deposit by UPI (minimum ₹500 here).
- Receive the panel address, username and a temporary password in the same chat.
- Log in, change the password immediately, and check that the balance matches.
The whole thing normally takes a few minutes. The longer version, with the mistakes to avoid at each step, lives on the registration page. If you would rather look around without spending anything, ask for a demo ID first.
Is there an app?
Not in the app-store sense. The panel is a mobile website, and it works well in Chrome or Safari. You can pin it to your home screen so it behaves like an app — we explain how on the app page. What you should not do is install an APK file someone forwards to you. A fake login screen is the oldest trick there is, and an APK is the easiest way to deliver one.
Money in, money out
Deposits and withdrawals both go through the support chat. You send money by UPI, share the screenshot, and points are added. To withdraw, you message the amount and your UPI or bank details, and the points are deducted once the transfer is sent. Small withdrawals are usually quick; larger ones and late-night requests take longer. We have written a separate, more candid guide on how withdrawals work and what slows them down.
What 99exch is not
- It is not an investment. There is no strategy that turns an exchange into income. The commission alone guarantees that the average player loses over time.
- It is not regulated in India the way a bank or a stock broker is. Laws on online betting differ from state to state, and some states prohibit it outright. Checking what applies where you live is your responsibility.
- It is not for anyone under 18, and it is a bad idea for anyone who is in debt or betting to fix a money problem.
Who it suits, honestly
In our experience the people who get on fine with an exchange share a few habits. They watch a lot of cricket already. They treat the deposit as the cost of an evening's entertainment, like a cinema ticket. They set a number before the toss and they stop when it is gone. If that does not sound like you — if you know you chase losses, or you are hoping for a windfall — then the kindest advice we can give is not to start. The responsible gaming page has self-check questions and helpline details.
Where to go next
If you are still curious, the sensible order is: try a demo ID, read the bankroll guide, then decide whether to deposit. Most first-week regrets we hear about come from skipping those two steps.
